You have the Ability to Keep Your Silver Clean

We all know that silver has the innate ability to turn black when it is uncared for. So how do keep it from doing so, without having to make a trip to the jewelry store? Well, there are many ways to get rid of that tarnish that plagues your silver jewelry, and the best part is you have most of the items inside your own home! Here are some common household remedies for that tarnished silver of yours:
  1. Toothpaste that has baking soda in it acts as a solid cleaner for silver. To clean the silver simply scrub down the silver with toothpaste until the tarnish is gone and, voila, wash the toothpaste away and the tarnish will go with it!
  2. This next one requires aluminum foil, salt, water and a sealable container. Place your Taxco, Mexican, and any kind of silver jewelry into the sealable container. Then pour hot or cold water into the sealable container.
After a few minutes you should see the silver’s tarnish be zapped away by the salt and aluminum mixture! (You may also use baking soda in place of the salt. Boiled water seems to work better. Also, you will want to place the piece of silver jewelry on top of the aluminum.)

These are by far the most effective, non-commercial means of keeping your Taxco, Mexican, and all kinds of jewelry clean. These ways WILL damage metals that are only lined with silver. As always, contact your local jeweler to ensure that your silver will not be damaged using these methods to clean it.
